Rules worth knowing
Paying by UPI costs the payer nothing
Sending money from a bank account by UPI is free. Some merchant payments made from prepaid wallets carry a fee — the merchant pays it, not you.
Person-to-person collect requests are gone
NPCI phased out “collect” requests between people from October 2025, the pull that many scams relied on. Ask for money with a pay link or your QR instead.
Balance checks are rationed
Apps limit how often you can check your balance in a day. It keeps the network fast; your bank's own app or SMS still works.
Your app shows the registered name first
Before the PIN screen your app shows the name on the payee's bank account. It is the only name in the process that nobody can simply type.
