Why a normal link? WhatsApp and SMS don't make
upi:// tappable. This link opens a page that hands the payment to their UPI app, shows a QR if they're on a laptop, and lets them copy your ID if their app refuses. Your details live in the link itself — nothing is stored here.Personal UPI IDs: many UPI apps and banks now refuse a payment that a web link opens to a personal UPI ID — with any amount, or none — and show errors like “bank limit exceeded”. Scanning a QR inside the app always works, so the pay page leads with its QR, and “Send QR image” sends the code itself. A merchant UPI ID from your bank makes the tap-to-pay buttons work too.
